What 5 main areas of life in which Biology has an affect?
food, clothing, shelter, health, and fuel
7 characteristics common to all living things?
-made up of cells, reproduce, uses energy, grows, organized, responds to environment, evolve or change.
What are the levels of organization?
-atoms and molecules, cells, tissue, organ, organ system, population, community, and ecosystem.
Define atoms and molecules.
Make up cells and therefore life. (DNA)
Define cells
the smallest unit of life capable of carrying out all of the functions of living things. all organisms are made up of cells.
Define tissue
a group of cells that perform a specific function in an organism.
Define organ
several different types of tissues that function together to perform a specific function.
Define organ system.
made up of several organs who work together to perform a function.
Define population.
a group of organisms of the same species that live together in a particular location.
Define community.
all the populations of different kinds of organisms living in the same space.
Define ecosystem.
The community of organisms in an area, as well as the non-living factors of the environment.
