What is the nasal bone?
top of the nose that forms the bridge of the nose
What is the ethmoid sinus?
bunch of little holes below the cribriform plate
What is the frontal sinus?
cavity within the frontal bone; right above the nose
What is the temporomandibular joint?
place where the mandible and temporal bone comes together
What is the mandibular notch?
U shape in-between the two processes
What is the temporal bone?
temple area of the skull
What is a true rib?
connect individually to the sternum
What is the greater wing?
deep curved indent below the lesser wing
What is the sphenoid sinus?
underneath the sella turcica
What is a false rib?
don’t individually connect to the sternum
What is the angle of the mandible?
part connecting the body and ramus of the mandible
What is the frontal bone?
bone of the forehead; front of the head
What is the basilar part?
flat part inside the skull by the foramen magnum; also extends to the outside
What is the palatine bone?
back part of the mouth
What does the cervical vertebra look like?
mouse/elephant
What is the ethmoid bone?
located between the eyes and forms the roof of the nasal cavity; small part
What does the thoracic vertebra look like?
giraffe
What is the costal facet?
on the transverse process where the ribs connect
What is the dens?
process on the axis that sticks up the top and articulates with the atlas
What is the foramen lacerum?
between the petrous part of temporal bone, sphenoid bone, and occipital bone; side of the Turkish saddle
What is the mastoid process?
rounded process of the temporal bone
What is the auricular surface?
rough part on the sides that articulate with the auricular surface on the os coxa
What is the superior articular process?
bump that sticks out at the top
What is the lamina?
flat part between the spinous process and transverse process
What is the head of the rib?
the end of the posterior part
What is the optic canal?
eyes of the manta-ray
What is the xiphoid process?
bottom pointy part of the sternum
What is the body of a vertebra?
flat part
What is the supraorbital ridge?
ridge above the eye socket; eyebrow of the skull
What does costal mean?
rib
What is the superior articular facet?
just the surface of the superior articular process where another vertebrae connects on the top
What is the stylomastoid foramen?
opening located between the styloid process and mastoid process
What is the ramus of the mandible?
flat part on the side
What is the pedicle?
little bridge that connects the body to the top part that sticks out
What vertebra is the costal facet apart of?
thoracic vertebra
What is the external occipital protuberance?
little bump on the back of the skull

What is the mandibular fossa?
dip where the jaw connects
What vertebra is the dens found on?
cervical vertebra
What is the inferior nasal concha?
spiral on the sides of the vomer
What is the transverse process?
stick out the sides of the vertebra; more lateral
What is the sagittal suture?
joins the parietal bones/ middle of the head
What is the lateral ptergoid plate?
vertical process that laterally and inferiorly projects from the sphenoid; are lateral ridge on the underside of the skull behind the teeth
What is the transverse foramen?
hole that goes through the transverse process
What is the costal groove?
bottom of the rib where there is an indent
What is the zygomatic arch?
formed by joining of the zygomatic bone and the temporal bone; goes back towards the temporal bone
What vertebra is the transverse foramen found on?
cervical vertebra
What is the coronoid process?
front process of the mandible
What does the lumbar vertebra look like?
moose

chest bone
What is costal cartilage?
Where the ribs connect to the sternum
What is the superior orbital fissure?
fissure between greater and lesser wings of the sphenoid; can be seen inside the eye socket

bone on the back of the skull
What is the sternoclavicular joint?
where the clavicle and sternum come together
What is the petrous part?
ridge toward the back of the skull; inside

paired passageway just above the occipital condyle

where the root of the tooth and alveolus come together
What is the alveolus?
socket where the tooth goes
What is the cribriform plate?
valleys on the sides of the crista galli
What is the intervertebral disc?
fibrocartilage between each vertebra
What is the mental foramen?
small holes on the chin
What is the parietal bone?
top sides of the skull
What is the internal auditory canal?
passageway from the inner ear in petrous part of the temporal bone; on the petrous part kinda on the side
What is the occipital condyle?
bumps on the side of the foramen magnum and articulates with the 1st vertebra
What is the lambdoid suture?
joins the occipital and parietal bones; back of the head
What is the perpendicular plate?
top part of the triangle that’s in the nose
How many ribs are there?
12 pairs
What is the infaorbital foramen?
small opening below the eyes on the sides of the nose

forms the tailbone; 4 fused vertebra
What is the mandibular foramen?
Where the jaw meets the temporal bone
What is the medial pterygoid plate?
vertical process that medially and inferiorly projects from the sphenoid; more medial
What is the nasolacrimal canal?
hole in the lacrimal bone where tears go
What is the zygomatic bone?
forms the prominence of the cheek; cheekbone
What is the crista galli?
crest in the middle of the cribriform plate
What is a floating rib?
don’t attach to the sternum at all
What is the body of the mandible?
main portion below the teeth
What is the atlas?
very top vertebra; body is tingy
What is the sphenoid bone?
butterfly-shaped bone at the floor of the cranium
What is the superior nuchal line?
little ridge coming out from the external occipital protuberance
What is the coronal suture?
joins the frontal and parietal bones
What is the vomer?
bottom of the triangle; can be seen from the back
What is the sacral foramen?
holes in the sacrum
What is the external auditory canal?
ear hole on the outside of the temporal bone
What is the body of the sternum?

bone of the anterior neck that doesn’t articulate with any other bones

bump by the head

depression on the top of the manubrium

looks like a manta-ray
What is the foramen magnum?
big hole where the brain stem is
What is the inferior articular process?
bump that sticks out on the bottom by the spinous process
What is the spinous process?
sticks out the back
What is the manubrium?
top part of the sternum
What is the sacroiliac joint?
where the auricular surface of the sacrum and ilium come together
What does mental mean?
chin
What is the condylar process?
back process of the mandible
What is the sacrum?
forms the back wall of the pelvis; 5 bones fused together
What is the shaft of the rib?
curved part of the rib
What is the inferior articular facet?
just the surface of the inferior articular process where another vertebrae connects on the bottom
What vertebra is the axis a part of?
cervical vertebra
What is the inferior orbital fissure?
below the superior orbital fissure inside the eye socket
What is the axis?
second vertebra; has a structure that comes up that allows you to rotate your head
What is the carotid canal?
passageway just medial to the styloid process
What is the foramen ovale?
looks like an oval; lateral too the base of the sella turcica
What is the styloid process?
long, sharp process of the temporal bone; very pointy part by the mastoid process
What is the mandible?
lower jaw
What is the sella turcica?
saddle-like depression posterior to the lesser wing of sphenoid; picks up where the basilar part left off
What is the jugular foramen?
goes through the back of the petrous part
What is the vertebral foramen?
hole where the spinal cord goes through
What is the squamous suture?
joins the temporal and parietal bones; side of the head
What vertebra is the atlas a part of?
cervical vertebra
What is the supraorbital foramen?
small hole above the eye socket

basic bone unit of the vertebral column
What is the maxilla?
upper jaw; above the teeth
What is the lacriamal bone?
inside of the eye; medial wall of the orbit
What is the maxillary sinus?
paired cavity within the maxilla; behind the front of the maxilla
What is the foramen rotundum?
paired opening anterior two the foramen ovale
What does SOLaR stand for?
spinosum, ovale, laceurs, anterior, rotundum
What is the foramen spinosum?
tiny hole next to the foramen ovale
