Arousal Flashcards
Define arousal
A level of activation, a degree of rediness to perform
What does the Drive theory state?
As arousal increases, so does performances: P = f(D x H)
What is the dominant response
The stand-out response that the performer thinks is correct
How does the complexity of the task impaired by arousal?
Lots of information to process for a complex action and some cues maybe ignoredSimple tasks do not require much thinking and can be performed well at high levels of arousal e.g. a forward roll in gymastics
Describe the Inverted U theory
Theory linking arousal and performancestates:increasing arousal improves performanceto an optimal pointafter which performance deteriorates
What level of arousal might a beginner need to operate in?
Low - uncomfortable under pressure
