Involves giving short, written answers that can then be standardised to scale to compare results.
Advantages - Deals with lots of info, Quick/efficient, Cheap, Objective
Disadvantages - Questions misunderstood, Too general: yes/no only, Biased answers, Weak validity/unreliable, Depends on mood states.
Discuss the benefits of using Observation to measure anxiety?
Researcher watches players in action several times and notes aspects of their behaviour and personality.
Advantages - Realistic, Ture picture of athletes
Disadvanyages - Subjective- results vary, comments opinionated, time consuming, Athletes behaviour may change, Consistency of data collection
Discuss the benefits of using Physiological methods to measure anxiety?
Body Measurements - sweating, Increased Heart Rate, Increased rate of breathing, Increased levels of hormone secretion.
Advantages - Factual, Easy to comapre, Realistic
Disadvantages - Costly, needs training to learn method, May restrict movement, May cause additional stress.
What is Somatic anxiety?
A physiological response to a threat such as increased heart rate.
What is cognitive anxiety?
A Psychological response such as worrying about losing.
