- Eastern make half of Malbec production, but all blended into “Mendoza IG”, biggest IG is San Martin IG

- 2 most famous regions: Maipu IG and Lujan de Cuyo DOC (1989)
- Maipu IG is planted with Malbec closest to Mendoza city
- Lujan – 2 GIs make the best Malbecs:
1. Las Compuertas GI – higher altitude and good water source.
2. Agrelo GI – largest concentration with half of Lujan’s plantings

1. Tupungato – Most expensive Malbec vines in Argentina come from Gualtallary IG, top class Char from Zapata, Balbo, Dona Paula.
2. Tunuyan – Vista Flores IG is top for Malbec
3. San Carlos – many 100yrs old vines, most notably in Paraje Altamira GI
