A

Gram positive ONLY including MRSA

what are the indications for vancomycin?

A
  • MRSA infections bacteraemia, endocarditis, skin and soft tissue infection, pneumonia, meningitis
  • Alternative for GPC treatment in penicillin allergic patients

what are the adverse effects of vancomycin?

A

Infusion related reaction Red man syndrome

  • Histamine related flushing, usually face and neck
  • Avoid rapid infusion

Haematological: neutropenia (1-2%), particularly with prolonged treatment

Nephrotoxicity with elevated trough levels. Avoid concomitant nephrotoxic agents
