Q

Procedure: PRE- Experimental phase

A
  1. The ppts had just completed a study and were about to go home when the asked if they could spare 5 mins in Andrade’s study.
  2. The procedure took place in a dull room.
  3. Ppts were told they would by tested on the names of party attendees.
  4. The control group were given A4 lined paper, so they could’ve had doodled if they wanted but weren’t given a specific instructions.

Q

Procedure: Experimental phase

A
  1. All ppts listened to the phone call.
  2. The researchers talked to the ppts for a minute, apologised for the deception and introduced an unexpected recall task for the places mentioned.
  3. The order of the tasks were counterbalanced.

17
Q

Explain 3 controls that were used. Okay

A
  1. Standardisation of the telephone message to control for any attention capturing aspect of the message.
  2. Counterbalancing to control for any pos/neg effects of the order of presentation on memory
  3. Induction of boredom to control for alertness amount ppts
18
Q

Name 3 controls used

Standardisation of the telephone message
Counterbalancing
Induction of boredom
