Active Transport Flashcards
Fun fact: Mommy loves me! SHe sssooooo cuuuutee
Two types of Active transport
Transport with protein/pump
Bulk transport
What is Active transport via protein pump?
It uses ATP to power a change in protein shape to bring ions or molecules into/out of the cell, against the concentration gradient.
What is bulk transport?
It moves large quantities of a substance into a cell
BUUT
It can’t pass thru the cell membrane so they are packaged vesicles
What are four factors that effect the rate of active transport?
Temp
Size of molecule
Size of concentration gradient
Number of transport Proteins.
How does Temp. affect the rate of Active Transport?
When there is higher temp there is a higher rate vice versa.
How does the size of molecules affect the rate of Active Transport?
Smaller size- higher rate
How does the size of the concentration gradient affect the rate of Active Transport?
Higher gradient-higher rate
What is endocytosis?
It is a process by which a cell surrounds and takes in material from its environment.(endosymbiotic theory)
What is Phagocytosis?
It is when a cell engulfs a solid particle and membrane changes shape and wraps around food.(endocytosis)
What is pinocytosis?
Cell engulfs in droplet and dissolved fluids. (endocytosis)
What is exocytosis?
When a material exits the cell or gets expelled.
What is excretion?
Removal of metabolic waste
What is secretion?
Production and release of substances.
