Cell Transport Flashcards
What’s passive transport
Requires NO ENERGY and its goal is EQUILIBRIUM. Hi concentration to lo concentration.
What is Active Transport.
Uses energy from Lo to Hi.
What are three types of Passive transport?
Diffusion
Facilitated Diffusion
Osmosis
What is Diffusion?
The movement of molecules from hi to lo on both sides of the membrane to get equilibrium.
What is facilitated Diffusion?
type of passive transport that INCREASE the rate of diffusion
HOW?
with the use of TRANSPORT PROTEIN
What’s a trans-membrane protein?
A type of membrane protein that extends through the entire cell membrane.
What else?
It transports molecules in and out of the cell.
Uni-port
One molecule, one direction
Symport
2 molecules, one direction
Anti port
2 mol. 2 directions
What’s a solute?
What is being dissolved
What’s a solvent
The dissolver.
What’s equilibrium in a cell membrane?
When 2 sides of the cell membrane have the same amount of molecules.
Concentration gradient?
Diff. between 2 sol.
What is the synonym for dynamic equilibrium?
Homeostasis
What is no net change?
The total amount of molecules on each side are the same. However, the molecules still exchange.
