Abdominal Viscera 2 Flashcards
where does the foregut begin?
abdominal esophagus
where does the foregut end?
first 1/3 of duodenum
to which gut does the proximal large intestine belong to?
midgut
to which gut does the distal large intestine belong to?
the hindgut
What is the cecum?
blind ended pouch covered in peritoneum but no mesentary
ileocecal valve
one way velave btw ileum and cecum that prevents backflow
where is the vermiform appendix located?
inferior aspect of the cecum
What is the veniform appendix suspended by?
mesoappendix
what side is the appendix on?
right side
What is mcburney’s point?
point on anterior ab wall that is lateral 1/3 of the distance from ASIS to umbilicus
What are the 4 parts of the colon?
ascending, transverse, descending, sigmoid
Wher is ascending colon?
right upper abdomen
Where is descending colon?
left upper abdomen
Which parts of the colon are retroperitoneal?
ascending colon and descending colon
Which parts of the colon are intraperitoneal?
transverse and sigmoid
What is taeniae coli?
3 longitudinal bands of smooth muscle that run along the outer layer of the entie colon
What are haustra?
series of pouches in wall of colon, created my muscle tone in taeniae coli
What does haustra allow for?
expansion and elongation of the colon
What is the mesoclon?
peritoneal covering of the colon that has small arteries and veins that supply the colon
What is the mesoappendix?
Peritoneal covering that connects the appendix to the ileum and cecum
where does the midgut transfer to the hindgut?
distal 1/3 of the transverse colon
which parts of the SMA supply the colon?
ileocolic, right colic, and middle colic branches (MRI)
Which parts of the colon does the large intestine supply?
ascending and transverse
Which parts of the colon fdes the IMA supply?
descending and sigmoid colon
Which branches of the IMA supply the colon?
left colic, sigmoidal, and superior rectal branch
what is the marginal artery of drummond?
an anastomoses btw the right, middle, and colic arteries that is key for collateral circulation or alternative supply?
what are the 5 portions of the pancreas?
tail, body, neck, head, uncinate process
Where is the portal vein with regards to the pancreas?
behind it
Where is the SMA with regards to the pancreas?
behind it
Where is the splenic artery with regards to the colon?
above the colon
What does the splenic vein drain?
foregut - spleen, lower esophagus, stomach, pancreas (forgut!)
where is the superior mesenteric vein?
within mesentery, anterior to 3rd part of dueodenum, joins splenic vein behind pancreas to form hepatic portal vein
Where does superior mesenteric vein drain?
drains area supplied by SMA - ileocecum (what connects small intestine to large intestine) , left colic, middle colic
where is inferior mesenteric vein?
left posterior mesenteric wall, joins splenic vein behind pancreas.
Where does splenic vein drain into?
hepatic portal vein
what does inferior rmesenteric vein drain?
areas supplied by IMA, left colic and sigmoidal, and superior rectal
what two veins unite to form the hepatic portal vein?
splenic vein and superior mesenteric vein
what kind of blood does hepatic portal vein carry?
blood rich with nutrients from digestive tract
Where does hepatic portal vein carry blood to?
the hepatic portal vein carries nutrient rich blood to the liver
