Ulysses S. Grant

A

Union General who forced the surrender of Vicksburg and became commanding general of all Union armies. He forced General Lee to fight a series of decisive battles which led to the Confederate surrender. He believed in “total war”, a concept that mean destroys the enemies means of production and anything else that would help its war effort. He later became the 18th President of the U.S.

Disadvantages- Less people to fight, fewer factories/infrastructure like railroads and a smaller army and navy.

Advantages- Larger army/navy, most of the factories, higher population/army and more mileage of railroads to transport goods.
Disadvantages- Lack of military leadership in the beginning to invade the South and challenge General Lee.
