Industrial Revolution
Shift from manual labor to mechanized work that began in Britain during the 1700’s and spread to the U.S. around 1800. This began in New England with the textile mills.
Erie Canal
Canal completed in 1825 that connected the Great Lakes and Midwest to the Hudson River and Atlantic Ocean. This made NY one of the main trading routes in the nation. Shipping rates decreased and goods were moved faster.

Eli Whitney
Used interchangeable parts to make products and inventor of the Cotton Gin. The cotton gin made processing cotton quicker, but also increased the need for more land and slaves to grow more cotton.
