PROCEDURE FOR TESTING THE REDUNDANT ALARM/PRESSURE GAUGE

A

TFD Personnel

  1. Test the alarm by pressing the switch three times in rapid succession.
    a. The alarm should enter test mode and then verify functioning of audible and visual alarm indicators as well as battery voltage
  2. Don SCBA in accordance with the guidelines set forth in this document and pressurize the system.
  3. As the pressure rises, note activation of audible and visible alarms to indicate the alarm is functional.
    a. When the system is fully pressurized the alarms enters Monitor Mode
  4. Press and hold in the alarm switch for at least one second to ensure the Manual Illumination Mode functions properly.
  5. Crack the bypass valve slowly to bleed off pressure until the alarm sounds. a. Nominal gauge pressure should be:
    i. 530 psig for a low pressure system OR
    ii. 1175 psig for a high pressure system
  6. When the pressure falls below 200 psig, press the alarm switch to turn the alarm off (Sleep Mode).
  7. If any material or functional deficiencies are found, follow the reporting and repair guidelines set forth earlier in this document.

  1. Do not rely on your equipment to keep you afloat
  2. Keep your facepiece on
  3. Regulate the air supply using the bypass valve

  1. Remain physically and mentally calm
  2. Take a regular breath and hold it as long as it would typically take you to exhale it
  3. Take another breath just before exhaling
  4. Continue taking normal breaths and exhaling slowly to keep the carbon dioxide in your lungs in proper balance
