a. In front of the free end of the hose
b. On the right side of the hose
c. Closer than 15 feet on the left side of the hose

17
Q

Some lesser known steps in the hose testing process:

A

Secure the hose directly in back of the test cap to avoid whipping or other uncontrolled movement in the event of a hose burst.
a. Two 100 foot bundles of 2-½“ hose or equal is recommended

With the hose at 45 psi, check for leakage at each coupling.

Raise the hose pressure slowly, at a rate not to exceed 15 psi per second, until service test pressure is attained and maintained for the duration of the stabilization period (one minute per each 100 feet of hose).

After the stabilization period, hold the service test pressure in the hose layout for another three minutes without further pressure boosts.
Example: 300 feet of hose will require 3 minutes of stabilization and 3 minutes of service test pressure.

Check for coupling slippage after the layout has been drained.

  1. Forward the copies of the FIR as follows: a. Original (white) copy to the Station 2 Captain b. Pink copy in the company file.
18
Q

How do you mark damaged areas on hose?

21
Q

How is hose repaired?

  1. Repair only 5” hose by removing the damaged sections and installing couplings.
  2. Do not patch small diameter hose.
