Q

What is the overview of the One Gene to One Protein Hypothesis

Q

What disease did Garrod study, and what was his hypothesis?

A
  • he studies a disease that turns the urin black due to a chemical called alkapton
  • Hypothesis : there is a gene that carries instructions for making the enzyme. Those with the diease carry a faulty version of the gene which they pass down to their children

Q

Breifly describe/ summerize Beadle and Tatum’s experiment (activity we did inclass).

A
  • for breadmold, it’s synthesized from precursor molecules using a sequence of three chemical reactions
  • without a certain enzyme, it can’t move on to produce the desired end product
  • conclusion: There is one gene to one protein transition
