2.3 - Glycolysis Flashcards
What are the 2 phases of glycoysis?
Energy investment & Energy yeilding phase
Describe the steps of glycolysis
1) glucose is phosphoralated (phosphate is added), and one ATP is added (becoming ADP)
2) That glucose is rearranged into a fructose isomer
3) one ATP is added, giving fructose another phosphate (phosphoralated) which makes the molecule symetrical
4) That fructose is split into two 3C molecules: DHAP and G3P
5) DHAP is converted/rearranged into G3P
6) G3P is oxidized (loses e-) and NADH is created from NAD+. A random floating phosphate is also added to the molecule [x2]
7) Phosphate is removed from the carbon chain and added to ADP to make ATP [x2]
8) Phosphate on carbon chain is moved from 3rd carbon to 2nd carbon [x2]
9) water is removed which forms a double bond between C=O [x2]
10) Pyruvate is made with the help of an enzyme called pyruvate kinase. Phosphate is transfered to make one ATP [x2]
What does DHAP stand for?
Dihydroxyacetone phosphate
What does G3P refer too?
aka PGAL
Glycerahdeyde-3-phosphate
How many ATP is put in and how many are made after glycolysis?
2 ATP invested, 4 ATP made
net: 2ATP
How many NADH are made after glycolysis?
2 NADH are made
