a tendinous seam that joins the 4 layers of large, flat muscles form the ventral abdominal wall
Gastroenteritis
inflammation of the stomach and intestines
Dysphagia
difficulty swallowing
Cullen’s Sign:
bluish umbillicus indictive of internal bleeding

borborygmus
Stomach growling
Bruits
vascular murmur, is the abnormal sound generated by turbulent flow of blood. Whooshing sound
Guarding
is rigidity in abdominal wall
Blumberg’s sign
Rebound tenderness
seen with inflammation of the peritoneal or apendicites. Hold hand away from tender area, push down slow and lift up quickly. If + there will be a lot of pain upon releasing hand
Murphy’s sign/Inspiratory arrest
if there’s inflammation with gallbladder you’ll have increased pain when holding fingers under livier boarder and get them to take a big breath. + sign is they stall and can’t take the breath without pain
Iliopsoas muscle test
when theres acute abdominal pain like in appendisisits. Lift R. leg and push down on the thigh as the patient tries to hold it up. + sigh they’ll feel pain in RLQ
Ascites
condition in which fluid collects in spaces within your abdomen. You’ll hear dullness in the sides and tympani on the middles (instead of the normal scattered dullness)
pyrosis
heartburn
burning sensation in esophagus/stomach caused by acid reflux
hematemesis
blood in vomit
abdominal adhesions
scar tissue in abdomen
umbilical hernia
occurs when part of your intestine bulges through the opening in your abdominal muscles near your bellybutton (navel)
-appears 2-3 weeks post birth and is gone by 1yr
