Gens - cannot be counted or divided (ex: des gens, beaucoup de gens)
Personnes - individuals + can be counted or divided (ex: deux personnes, certaines personnes, quelques personnes …)
Monde - a lot of people, a crowd (ex: il y a du monde = ‘there’s a lot of people’; beaucoup de monde = ‘a lot of people’)
There were too many people at the restaurant yesterday: 10 people were waiting in the street. People were not happy and eventually left.
Il y avait trop de monde au restaurant hier: 10 personnes attendaient dans la rue. Les gens n’étaient pas contents et sont finalement partis.
