1.2 Understanding Virtual Memory and Memory Types Flashcards
What is Virtual Memory?
A section of a hard drive or SSD used as temporary RAM when physical memory is full.
Where can the Paging File be found?
In Performance Options > Advanced Tab.
What is Multichannel Memory?
It spreads data across multiple RAM modules, enabling faster data transfers.
What is the purpose of Parity Memory?
It detects errors in RAM by adding a parity bit to ensure even or odd parity.
What is a Parity Bit?
A bit added to data to ensure the total number of ones matches the selected parity (even or odd).
What is ECC Memory?
ECC memory can detect and correct errors, while parity memory can only detect them.
What is Dual-Channel Memory?
A memory configuration where data is spread across two modules for improved performance.
What is SO-DIMM?
SO-DIMM is a smaller version of DIMM used in laptops and mobile devices.
