X Flashcards
The horizontal axis on a graph
X Axis
The sex chromosome that is responsible for determining femaleness in humans and other mammals
- The body cells of normal females posses two of these (XX), whereas males have one of these and one Y chromosome (XY)
- In humans, various authorities estimate that this carries between 1,000 and about 2,000 genes, including many responsible for hereditary diseases (sex linked)
- Abnormal numbers of these lead to genetic imbalance and a range of disorders and syndromes
X Chromosome
A strong and irrational, sometimes pathological, fear of strangers
- This may manifest as hostile attitudes or aggressive behavior toward people of other nationalities, ethnic groups, or even different regions or neighborhoods
Xenophobia
A chromosomal anomaly discovered in 1961 and associated with males who were aggressive or violent in institutions for criminals
- It was originally assumed that the extra Y chromosome predisposes male to such behavior, but the theory was modified when these anomalies were later found among normal males
