Wrist and Hands Flashcards
What is the wrist joint called?
Radio-carpal joint
What are the carpals called?
So Long To Pinky Here Comes The Thumb
Schapoid Lumate Triquetrum Pisiform (proximal row- lateral to medial) Hamate Capitate Trapezoid Trapezium (Distal row- medial to lateral)
What are the muscles that flex the wrist? (Wrist Flexors)
FCU+FCR

What is the muscle(s) that adducts the wrist?
FCU
What is the muscle that abducts the wrist?
FCR
What is the articular disc called that is between the ulna and other bones?
Ellipsoid joint
Where is the midcarpal joint?
Between the two rows of carpal bones
Where is the carpo-metacarpal joint? and what can it be described as?
Between the distal row of carpal bones and proximal end of the metacarpal bones
synovial saddle joint of the thumb
What are the movements of the thumb?
Flexion Extension ABD ADD Rotation Opposition
What type of joint is metacarpophalangeal joint?
Synovial condyloid
What type of joint is the interphalangeal joint?
Synovial hinge
What is the flexor retinaculum?
Strong, transverse, fibrous band that confines the flexor tendons of the five fingers to the arch of the carpus which forms the carpal tunnel
Where is the flexor retinaculum located?
Distal to the flexion creases in the skin of the wrist and attached laterally to the tubercles of the scaphoid and trapezium and medially to the triquetrum, pisiforma and the hook of hamate
What makes up the carpal tunnel?
8 tendons
medial nerve
How is carpal tunnel syndrome brought about?
Any swelling of the synovial sheath irritates medial nerve
