Women are more likely to be poorer than men. Their average earnings are less despite being better educated. Running a political campaign to get elected costs money – richer people (more likely to be men) are better able to afford to try and become elected.

For example, women in America are 35% more likely than men to be poor.

Answer 2

Women are more likely to be single parents and therefore trying to combine family life with a political career can be too difficult achieve. Understandably, single parents have other responsibilities that take priority.

For example, 86% of single parent families in the US are led by mothers.
