Devolved powers Flashcards
education
One devolved power Scotland has is decisions about education. Here, Scottish Parliament has the ability to make decisions about educational policies, the Scottish Curriculum and exams.
For example, between 2013-2014 the Scottish Parliament made the decision to change from Standard Grades to National 4/5s.
Health
Another devolved power Scotland has is decisions about Health. Here, Scottish Parliament has the ability to make decisions over what resources are to be devoted to the NHS and can make decisions about Scottish healthcare.
For example, in 2011, Prescription charges were scrapped in Scotland making medicine more accessible to Scottish citizens.
Housing
Another devolved power Scotland has is decisions about Housing. All laws regarding the sales, building and maintenance of housing is held by the Scottish Parliament as housing in Scotland faces different issues than housing problems in the rest of the UK
For example, it has been law in Scotland since December 2017 that private rented housing can only be let out on a “rolling contract”.
