Ch 3

Autonomy support, kids, competition, control

A

Basically control might be a way to rationalize exerting power force on others.

Autonomy supper is just eg. Of good communication, using, I statements, acknowledging other person etc.

Having choices is imp. But need info and desire to learn. Personally meaningful implementation plan, tailored to individual cooperative imp.

Controlling could possibly work if great effort is made not to make it controlling, ie merit based. But quickly loses it’s significance and still has an underlying controlling aspect that would be better approached through discussion.

Focus on effort,

Self initiation, experimentation responsibility
Compassion, passion,
Autonomy, connection, movement or competence (relatedness)

NO PRESSURE

Ch 4

A

Preparing for a test decreases self mot. Better if learn material in order to teach it. Also see it in performance on kids drawings. Pay for performance no good, must xompensate workers to keep them working, but incentives or rewards undermine insptrinsic motivation. Also note Pizza Hut and book reading. Remember once you instate rewards there is no turning back. Stop reward stop action. Unless habit I wonder.

Autonomy vs permissiveness,
REVIEW HIGHLIGHTED AREAS for aspects of autonomy support and recommendation. Esp. For parents, stress life agrees, do not realize.

Setting limits through clear explanation of rationale, Acknowelgdeing emotions in an empathic manner nd by reducing any sense of pressure/urgency aid in Utonomy support and intrinsic motivation. But must be done consistently.

Ch 8
Ego involvement? Think of school, family, friends. Mutual relationships and autonomy support. Not genetic stems from interaction of intrinsic motivation and soxial integration.

A

Interesting paralleled to motivational interviewing, purpose, freedom, structure responsibility, objective ess genuine, it is so hard, but quite real and it’s interesting to consider it at different level, man vs man, man vs himself, man vs object, mN vs society. All of them play to inteojections, true self esteem, vs contingent self esteem / worth, (derogation, blame, defensiveness) psychonanalytic ideas of id squeezing seem to fall here too
