Whiting's information processing model Flashcards
State the order of Whiting’s information processing model
- Environment
- Display
- Receptor systems
- Perceptual mechanisms
- Translatory mechanisms
- Effector mechanisms
- Muscular system
- Output
- Feedback
Define environment
Everything within/outside a performer
Define display
All the sensory info surrounding the performer. The sporting environment!
Define receptor systems
Absorbing sensory info from a display
What are the 5 receptor systems?
-Sight
-Auditory sense
-Touch
-Balance
-Kinaesthetics
Define perceptual mechanisms
Starting to interpret sensory information (selective attention/DCR)
Define translatory mechanisms
Use information from the perceptual mechanisms (DCR) to decide on what action should be taken
Define effector mechanisms
The network of nerves that sends coded impulses to the muscles
Define muscular system
Receiving the coded nerver impulses
Define output
Producing the movement
Define feedback
Intrinsic (internal) and extrinsic (external)
