Using words to explain a task to a performer

Netball coach instructing an autonomous performer to bend their knees in order to gain more power behind the shot.
What is manual guidance
Physically supporting a performer during a movement
Give an example of manual guidance
During a vault, a coach would support the gymnast’s back and assist them to travel over the vault.
What is mechanical guidance?
Any equipment, apparatus or device used to aid shape and movement

Using a swimming float between a performers legs to focus on stroke movement.

- Helps build a clear mental image
- Suitable for large groups
Give 2 disadvantages of visual guidance
- Demonstrations must be accurate
- Too much information could lead to overload.

- Can be given immediately during performance
- Used effectively in conjunction with visual guidance

- Could lose a performers concentration if instructions are lengthy
- Cognitive performers may not understand technical/detailed terminology

- Effective for cognitive performers
- Reduces fear/anxiety

- May cause performer to feel uncomfortable
