Response time Flashcards
Define reaction time
The time taken from the onset of a stimulus to the onset of a response.
NO MOVEMENT
Define movement time
The time taken to complete the task.
- After information processing has taken place.
Define response time
The time taken from the onset of a stimulus to the completion of a task.
Give an example of reaction time
GK reaction time in penalty kick would be the period from the opponent striking the ball to when the GK begins to push off the floor to begin the dive.
What are the 2 types of reaction time
Simple reaction time and choice reaction time
What is simple reaction time
Where there is one specific response to one stimulus - producing a fast reaction and response.
Give an example of simple reaction time
In a swimming race the stimulus is the starter signal and the only response is to dive in.
What is choice reaction time
Where you have to choose from numerous stimuli which give a number of responses. Therefore a slower response time
Give an example of choice reaction time
In football you may have several team mates calling for a pass and several responses in terms of who to pass to, type of pass etc.
Give an example of movement time
The time from when the GK pushes off the floor to when the dive (save attempt) is complete.
What is the relationship between reaction time and movement time summarised as?
Response time= reaction time + movement time
Apply these key terms to a netball centre pass, which is being received by the WA
Reaction time - the stimulus is the whistle of the umpire which initiates the response of the WA pushing off the floor
Movement time - the time from the WA crossing the third line to them receiving the ball
Response time - the entirety of the action, from the whistle blowing to the ball being received.
