Schema theory Flashcards
What is a schema
A generalised motor programme that can be adapted to similar sporting situations.
How is a schema used in learning a new skill?
By recalling new schemas we can modify them to suit the new skill
What can a schema for throwing be adapted to?
- Returning a cricket ball
- Shoulder pass in netball
- Goal keeper throw
How are motor programmes adapted
Using info from the environment and by using feedback from the senses.
What are the two main categories
- Recall schema
- Recognition schema
What is the recall schema?
it initiates movement and comes before the action
What is the recognition schema?
Controls the movement and happens during the action
What are the two processes within the recall schema
- Initial conditions
- Response specification
What is initial conditions?
Refers to information from the sporting environment that must be recognised before the schema can be used. (Perceptual)
What is response specification
Based on initial conditions and past experiences, you decide what movement to perform. (Translatory/effector)
Give an example during initial conditions
Positioning on court
Give an example during response specification
How far do I need to pass the ball/what pass
What are the two processes in recognition schema?
- Sensory consequences
- Response outcome
What is sensory consequences
Information from the senses is used to control and apply the movement to the situation
Give an example during sensory consequences
Am I Still balanced? (KoP)
