Feedback and Learning Plateaus Flashcards
Describe knowledge of performance
Information about why the skill/action was unsuccessful/successful.
- About technique!!
Describe knowledge of results
Information about whether or not the skill/action was successful/unsuccessful.
- Concerns the outcome!!
Describe positive feedback
Information about what was correct, so that it can be repeated in the future
- Encouragement
Describe negative feedback
Information about incorrect actions, so that errors are corrected when it is repeated.
- Error correction
Describe intrinsic feedback
From within using kinaesthesias, used to ‘feel’ whether the action was correct or not.
- Positive/negative
Describe extrinsic feedback
From an outside source, used to reinforce correct actions and correct errors.
- Positive/negative
Give an example of Knowledge of Performance
If a tennis players wrist is floppy the ball will not travel with sustainable power.
Give an example of Knowledge of Results
Looking at the scoreboard during a netball match
Give an example of Positive feedback
Teammates being encouraging after a successful shot in football
Give an example of Negative feedback
A coach correcting your form during a dance move
Give an example of intrinsic feedback
When throwing a discus, you can feed from kinaesthesias whether it has enough power to achieve a good distance
Give an example of extrinsic feedback
Watching a tackle in hockey back on video and analysing what went well/not well
Define a learning plateau
Occurs when a learner stops progressing/no improvement in performance is evident.
What occurs in Stage 1 of the learning plateau graph?
Rate of learning is slow and performance level is poor - due to being in the cognitive stage of learning.
What occurs in Stage 2 of the learning plateau graph?
Rapid acceleration in the rate of learning because the performer has begun to master the skill and gain some success.
