1
Q

Q

How is heritability coefficient interpreted?

A
  • About causes of variation in traits
    • NOT what causes the traits themselves
  • Applies to differences within a group
    • NOT differences between groups

Q

What is the heritability coefficient?

A

statistical estimate of the extent to which phenotypic variation in a particular group can be attributed to genetic factors

  • It is a correlational term (positive value from 0 to 1)
  • Often expressed as a percentage (from 0% to 100%)
  • It applies to groups not individuals

Q

What is the difference between heredity and heritability?

A
  • Heredity means the passage of characteristics from parent to offspring by way of genes
  • Heritability means how much of the variation in the characteristic Within a population can be attributed to genetic differences

Q

What is concordance?

A

If a characteristic has a higher concordance and people who are more highly related to each otherAnd then this points to a possible genetic contributionParticularly if the people have lived in different environments

  • Adoption study
