what is the presentation of a snake bite?
localsied discomfort is usally the only sign
may have other signs - msucle weakness, slurred speach, headache, abdopain, n/v and sweating
what are the early life threats that may occur after a snake bite?
cardiac arrest - most commonly after brwon snake bite
sudden collapse/hypotension
resp failure secondary to parlysis
seizures
uncontrolled hamoraage secondary to seve venom incuded consumptive xoagulopathy
what is the managment of a snake bite?
Limbs -pressure bandage and leave insitu if appropriatly firm - reapply if loose or cutting circulation
slint
all - avoid torneqets, or sucking wound, dont wash a, immoblise on strecher, IV acess times 2 and resp support
what transport considerations are there for snake bites?
consult ARV if transport is greater than 30 minutes
the paitent requires a hospital where a doctor can mage snakebites and potential anaphylaxis and adequate stocks on anti-venom
what is the tratment for reback spider bites?
no pressure bandage and ice pack
what is the treatment for big black spider bites?
do not walk the paitnt
if on limb - pressure bandage, immobilise on strecher
Pulomanry odeama CPAP
excessive secretions - MICA
what is the treatment for no tropical jellyfish - including bluebottles
wash with seawater if possible
gently pick of tentacles
apply hot warm water if avalible
do not apply vinager
what is the treatment for barbed fish/ray bites
do not remove barb
manage heamorrage
immerse in hot water if possible
what is the treatment for blue ringed octa[us stings?
bite to limb - pressure bandage
immobalise on streacher
prepare for resp/cardiac arrest
consider prolonged resucitationefforts
what is the treatment for irukandji jellyfish stings?
douse with vinager for at least 30 seconds - if unavalable remove tenticles and rinse well with seawater
prepare for resus
what is the presenetation of a irukandji jellyfish sting?
generalsied sevre pain and systemic effects, tachycardia, agitation and hypetsneion- cardiac arrest and pulomnary odeam in a small number of cases
