Water Flashcards
What percentage of a typical cell is water?
75% of a typical cell is water.
What allows hydrogen to form bonds witheachother?
The polarity between the hydrogen molecules
Why is water so vital?
It is a universal solvent
. What is cohesion?
Bonding of a high percentage of the molecules to neighboring water molecules. Basically water touching itself
What is adhesion?
The bonding of water with unlike molecules examples are water clinging to a tube to form a meniscus and clinging Te xylem tubes.
What is surface tension?
A measure of how difficult it is to stretch or break the surface of aliquid.
What form of cater is the least dense?
Water is the least dense as a solid
What does water have a high capacity for?
Absorbing energy
What does water tend to resist?
Water tends to resist changes in temperature
What is critical to the theory of chemical evolution?
Water’s ability to absorb energy
