Lipids Flashcards
What elements are lipids comprised of?
Carbon, hydrogen and oxygen
What is in the family group of lipids
Fats, phospholipids and steroids
What are factions of lipids?
Energy storage, cushions organs, insulates body. Membrane structure hormones
What are ester linkages?
Big molecules made up of smaller subunits that do not form polymers and are not a continuing chain
-What are the differences between saturated and unsaturated fats?
There are no double bonds with carbon in saturated fats, there are in unsaturated unsaturated is liquid at room tempi saturaturated is solid satrated is present in animal, unsaturated in plants
What kind offats usually contributes to cardiovascular diseases?
- saturated fats
What chains do lipids comprise of?
Hydrocarbon chains
