In which year of Prophethood did the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) lose tribal protection, and why?
- In the 10th year of Prophethood (619AD), the Prophet (P.B.U.H) lost tribal protection because his uncle Abu Talib passed away, and his worst enemy, Abu Lahab, became the chief of Banu Hashim.
Why did the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) decide to visit Taif?
- After losing protection in Makkah and facing increased persecution from the Quraish, he sought support for Islam and safe refuge.
- He traveled to Taif, about 60 miles from Makkah, with his adopted son Zaid bin Harithah.
Which tribe lived in Taif, and why did the Prophet (P.B.U.H) have high hopes for them?
- Taif was inhabited by Banu Saqeef, the second largest tribe in Arabia.
- The Prophet (P.B.U.H) hoped that if they accepted Islam, it would mark a new phase in Islamic history.
Which three chiefs did the Prophet (P.B.U.H) meet in Taif, and how did they respond?
- He met Masood, Habib, and Abd Yalail, inviting them to Islam and seeking their support.
- They rejected him and asked him to leave the town.
What did the Prophet (P.B.U.H) do after the chiefs rejected him, and what was their reaction?
- The Prophet (P.B.U.H) continued preaching Islam to the common people for ten days.
- When the chiefs learned of this, they became furious and sent a mob of teenagers and slaves to attack him.
How was the Prophet (P.B.U.H) treated by the mob in Taif?
- He was abused and pelted with stones, causing his shoes to fill with blood.
- His companion Zaid bin Harithah tried to shield him and was badly wounded on the head.
Where did the Prophet (P.B.U.H) seek refuge after the attack, and who helped him?
- He found refuge in an orchard belonging to Utba and Shaiba, two Makkan brothers who opposed Islam but felt sorry for him.
- They sent their Christian slave Adas with grapes for him.
What was the result of the Prophet’s (P.B.U.H) conversation with Adas in the orchard?
Adas accepted Islam after speaking with the Prophet (P.B.U.H).

- Angel Gabriel said: “Allah has heard what your people said to you, and how they have replied to you.
- Allah has sent the angel of the Mountains to you so that you may order him to do whatever you wish to these people.”
What did the Angel of the Mountains offer to do, and how did the Prophet (P.B.U.H) respond?
The angel said: “O Muhammad! Order what you wish. If you like, I shall cause mountains surrounding Al-Ta’if, to fall upon them, and crush them into pieces.”
What did the Prophet reply with after the Angel’s suggestion?
- The Prophet (P.B.U.H) refused and instead prayed:
“O Allah forgive them and guide them for they know me not.”

- Before re-entering Makkah, he sought protection from many influential leaders but was rejected.
- Finally, Mut’im bin Adi, the chief of Banu Nawfal, granted him protection.
