Surah 112 (Surah Ikhlas) Flashcards
1
Q
What is the main theme of this surah?
A
- the theme of Surah Ikhlas is Allah in Himself. It explains the concept of Tauhid for the purity of faith (ikhlas).
- The verse “Ahad” means the Only One, the Unique meaning that He is the One who was, is, and will ever remain alone.
- The word “Samad” shows that Allah is absolute, independent, and self-sustaining, while all creation depends on Him.
- He needs nothing for His sustenance. As the Quran says, “Allah, there is no god but He, the living, the self-subsisting, the eternal.”
- He has no partners, family, or children.
- It tells about God’s uniqueness in his personality, attributes and actions and sums up the whole argument by warning against the tendency of comparing Him with anyone or anything.

Q
What is the importance of this surah?
A
- This passage highlights the importance of Surah Ikhlas in protecting Muslims from shirk (associating partners with God).
- It reminds them not to replace or equate anyone, like saints or celebrities, with Allah.
- It also corrects the false belief that God has children, partners, or anyone sharing His authority.
- The surah provides clarity of belief and strengthens a Muslim’s direct relationship with God.
- It is recited regularly in daily prayers and is one of the protective chapters (Quls).
- The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said it equals one-third of the Quran, as it summarizes the message of Tawhid—pure monotheism, which shapes Muslim faith and worship.
