Verapamil (Isoptin/Calan) Flashcards
1
Q
Class
A
Calcium channel blocker
2
Q
Actions (5)
A
- Reduces myocardial O2 demand through its negative inotropic & chronotropic effects
- Slows conduction and prolongs refractoriness in the AV node by blocking calcium at the slow channels
- Decreases automaticity of all pacemaker cells
- Increases coronary blood flow by decreasing coronary spasm
- Relaxes vascular smooth muscle which decreases systemic vascular resistance
