- Stabilizes excitable neuronal membranes
- Alters sodium conduction through the sodium (fast) channels of cardiac cells

Indications (4)
A
- Prevention of recurrent SZ activity
- Status epilepticus in conjunction with Diazepam–onset of action is slow ~10-20 min
- Ventricular ectopy due to dig toxicity and TCA ODs
- Trigeminal neuralgia

A
- Hypersensitivity
- Bradycardia
- 2nd and 3rd degree heart block

Side Effects (8) HHNCCRAP
A
- Hypotension with rapid IV push (greater than 50 mg/min)
- Heart block
- Nystagmus
- Cardiovascular collapse
- CNS depression
- Respiratory depression
- Ataxia
-Pain at the injection site
