A
- Postpartum hemorrhage after infant and placental delivery in conjunction with fundal massage
- In the hospital setting only may be used to induce labor in certain cases

Dosage/route
A
10-20 units in 1 L NS to run in over 15 minutes or 3-10 units IM, after delivery of the placenta

10 units per ml

Contraindication
A
Should not be use prior to the delivery of the fetus and the placenta in the prehospital setting

Side Effects (4)
A
- Uterine rupture from excessive administration
- HTN
- Arrhythmias
- Anaphylaxis

Precaution
A
- Should be used in conjunction with correct fundal massage
- VS, firmness of uterus, and vaginal bleeding should be monitored
