Amiodarone (Cordarone) Flashcards
0
Q
Actions (2)
A
- Noncompetitive alpha/beta adrenergic blocking properties
- Prolongs duration of action potential and effective refractory period which slows conduction
1
Q
Class
A
Class III Antidysrhythmic
3
Q
Indications (4)
A
- VF or VT cardiac arrest
- Control of hemodynamically stable VT, polymorphic VT, and wide-complex tachycardia of uncertain origin
- Refractory PSVTs, atrial tach, and pharmacological cardio version of AF
- Control rapid ventricular rate due to accessory pathway conduction in preexcited atrial arrhythmias
4
Q
Dosages/Routes
A
- VF/VT cardiac arrest: 300 mg IV followed by 10 cc NS flush
- For pt not in cardiac arrest: 150 mg diluted in 100 mL NS IV over 10 minutes, followed by infusion of 1 mg/min over 6 hours
- Onset: within minutes
- Duration: variable

Q
Standard Prep
A
150 mg/3 cc

Q
Side Effects (5)
A
- Hypotension
- Bradycardia
- Hepatotoxicity
- CHF, pulmonary fibrosis
- Misc: flushing, abnormal salivation

Q
Precautions (3)
A
- Do not shake vial because it will foam
- Monitor infusion rate carefully
- Monitor VS, EKG, LS, and mental status
