A
Stimulates B2 receptors in the smooth muscle of the bronchial tree=bronchodilation by increasing levels of camp (conversion of ATP to cyclic AMP)

A
- Asthma
- Exacerbation of COPD
- Anaphylaxis
- Nebulizer tx may be indicated in cardiac wheeze
- Investigational use for hyperK in dialysis pt

Dosage/Route
A
- 1-3 puffs from metered dose inhaler
- 2.5-5.0 mg diluted to 3 cc NS via neb–O2 liter flow is usually started at 6-8 liters for aerosolized neb
- Onset: 5-15 min after inhalation
- Duration: 3-4 hrs after inhalation

A
- Metred dose inhaler delivers 90 mcg/metered dose
- Proventil solution 20 mL bottle (5 mg/cc), unit dose 2.5 mg in 3 cc NS

- Hypersensitivity
- Severe cardiac disease

- Continually monitor VS, EKG, LS
- Exercise care in presence of tachycardia and HTN
