Inhibits fungal p450, decreases synthesis of ergosterol,, and damages fungal cell wall membrane
What kind of interaction does anti-fungals have?
Warfarin, increased bleeding + bruising
When should you use antifungals?
At night before bedtime to reduce leakage
Antifungals + Pregnancy
Can be used during 1st trimester, but provider has to be notified
What age group shouldn’t use antifungals?
<12 yrs old
Vulvovaginal candidiasis exclusions?
- Fever or pain in lower ab, back or shoulder
- Corticosteroids, antineoplastics
- Recurrent VVC (4 in a year or 1 in last 60 days)
- First incidence of VVC
- pH greater than 4.5
What are the pharmacologic Tx for Atrophic Vaginitis?
Astroglide, KY Jelly, Replens
What should you avoid for Atrophic Vaginitis?
Petroleum jelly
How often should you lubricate for Atrophic Vaginitis?
