1-10% of females
Anomaly of the uterus and fallopian tubes
What is bicornuate uterus?
Uterus bicornis
2 cavities and uterine horns due to lack or incomplete canalization with single cervix
What is a deldelphys uterus?
2 separate uterine cavity and horns due to lack of merging fusion with 2 cervix
What is septate uterus?
Lack of septal reabsorption
Most common mullein anomaly
3-7% in general population
What does bicollis mean?
Double cervix
How does a bicornuate uterus differ from a didelphys uterus?
Fusion lack of canalization - bicornuate
Lack of fusion - didelphys
Describe how mullein anomalies occur embryologically?
Elongation, fusion and canalization or septal reabsorption occurs around 9 weeks gestation
How do you counsel a patient about pregnancy risks in the presence of a Mullerian anomaly?
Infertility
SAB
Second trimester pregnancy loss
IUGR
What is the incidence of maternal renal anomalies with mullerian anomaly?
up to 30%
