PRES Flashcards
Pres stands for
Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome
What is the imaging modality of choice to diagnose PRES?
MRI of the brain without intravenous (IV) contrast.
Shows vasogenic edema in the posterior brain
BP goal for PRES management
SBP 130 to 150 mmHg
DBP 80 to 100 mmHg
What clinical findings are suggestive of intracranial hemorrhage?
Common presenting symptoms include headache, nausea, vomiting, confusion, somnolence, or seizure
When do you recommend brain imaging?
Worse headaches, AMS, focal neurologic deficits, unexplained seizures
When do you recommend head CT vs MRI?
Concern for intracranial hemorrhage
What is reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome?
Reversible multifocal narrowing of the arteries of the brain
Symptoms = thunderclap headache and neuro deficits
