Using Nutritional Guidelines Flashcards
what is hunger?
Hunger is a feeling of physical discomfort that is caused by your body’s need for nutrients. When you are hungry your body will display signs to allow you to know that you need to eat
Have you ever heard your stomach growl, had a stomach ache, have a headache mid-way through the day? These are sometimes signs of that?
These are sometimes signs that your body is in need of nutrients. It is very difficult to concentrate when you are hungry.
What is appetite?
appetite is a desire for food that is based on emotions and other factors rather than nutritional need. Unlike hunger, which is an inborn response, appetite is learned. For example, your appetite may make you want to eat popcorn because you have learned to associate that smell with a delicious taste. Your appetite can make you eat even when you are not hungry.
One factor that affects your calorie needs is your basal metabolic rate, what is BMR?
(BMR) – the rate at which you use energy when your body is at rest.
what does a high BMR mean?
The higher your BMR the more calories you burn. Often younger people tend to have a higher BMR as well as individuals with more muscles mass as muscle burns calories.
