Q

What if the victim is not getting enough oxygen? What happens to the cells?

A

After you have checked the victim, you may find that he or she is not breathing. If brain cells are deprived of oxygen for more than five or six minutes, some cells will begin to die which can cause permanent brain damage. Providing the correct care in a timely manner is essential to begin restoring oxygen to the brain. In this situation you would perform rescue breathing.
