How to manage stress Flashcards
What is stress?
Stress is the response of your body and mind to being challenged or threatened.
When do you experience stress?
You experience stress when situations, events, or people make demands on your body and mind.
what is eustress?
postive stress;Positive stress is called eustress. It results in positive results or feelings.
What is an example of eustress?
For example, playing the piano in a recital can cause stress, but it is a very positive experience when you do well because everyone applauds and you are proud yourself. You may have felt nervous while you waited to perform, but you probably knew it was going to be a good experience.
What is distress?
Distress is negative stress. When the stress is too great to handle or it is caused by a negative event, it can have harmful effects on your attitude, your emotions, and your health.
What is a stressor?
An event or situation that causes stress is called a stressor.
What are the main causes of stress?
- life events
- catastrophes
- everday problems
- enviromental problems(If someone lives in an overcrowded living space or in an unsafe neighborhood, he may feel stressed.)
What is the stress responce?
The stress response is your body’s reaction to a stressor.
How does a stress responce work?
It happens because of the relationship between your brain and the rest of your body. Your brain recognizes the stressor and evaluates it. The brain decides whether or not the stressor is a threat and causes your body to react accordingly.
The body’s response to stress occurs in three stages, the first stage is the alram stage describe it
During this stage, your body releases a substance called adrenaline into your blood. This causes immediate changes in your body. These changes prepare you for the fight-or-flight response. This response allows you to either “fight” the cause of stress or “take flight.” This is a valuable response for survival.
The body’s response to stress occurs in three stages, the second stage is the resistance stage describe it
During this stage, you recognize and adapt to the presence of a stressor even though your body didn’t go through the alarm stage. Your body does not have time to go through the alarm stage when you deal with the stressor too quickly. Although you think you are no longer stressed, your body still reacts. This takes a lot of energy and you may feel tired and irritable because of it.
The body’s response to stress occurs in three stages, the third stage is the exhaustion stage describe it
In this stage, your body has used so much energy responding to the stressor that it can no longer perform well at tasks you need to do. Exhaustion does not occur with every stress response. People reach the exhaustion stage after dealing with stress for a long time (known as chronic stress).
How can stress negatively affect your health?
Severe or prolonged stress can affect your health. Stress can trigger certain illnesses, reduce the body’s ability to fight an illness, and make some diseases harder to control.
How stress can negatively affect your stomach
Stress can affect your entire digestive system and cause nausea, gas, cramps, constipation, and diarrhea. Excess stomach acid can eat away at the lining of your stomach and cause ulcers to form.
How does stress affect asthma?
While stress doesnt cause asthma, it can be a trigger for an attack and may make asthma harder to control. An asthma attack occurs when air passages in the respiratory system narrow. The results include difficulty breathing, wheezing, and gasping for air.
