What does a persons weight depend on?
A person’s weight is determined by various factors including heredity, level of activity, and body composition.
How does Heredity affect weight?
Certain traits are inherited and often body weight is one of them. This does not mean that you will look exactly like your parents; it just means you have a natural tendency toward a certain weight.
How does actvity level affect weight?
Maintaining a healthy weight requires an energy balance. The number of calories consumed must equal the number of calories burned. An imbalance between calories eaten and calories burned results in weight loss or gain. One pound of body fat is equivalent to 3,500 calories.
What does overweight mean?
Overweight is a term used to describe a person who is heavier than the standard for the person’s height.
How does body composition affect weight?
How much body fat do you have in comparison to muscle? Keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat by volume.
What is obesity?
Obesity, however, refers specifically to adults who have a BMI of 30 or higher.

What does underweight mean?
Underweight is a term used to describe a person who is lighter than the standard for the person’s height. Some teens are naturally thinner than others and because teens grow at different rates, weight gain happens at different rates as well.
why is a fad diet not good for weight loss or gain?
A fad diet is just that, it hangs around for a while, a few people try it and then they are right back to where they started when they become bored with the diet because it limited a large amount of foods. Weight loss from a fad diet is often temporary because it does not teach the individual how to nutritionally gain or lose weight but rather instantly gain or lose weight.
