What steps would you need to take when checking the inhaler

A

Clean hands
Check if the correct medication is in the inhaler
Check EXP
Shake inhaler/look at no of doses remaining on meter

Explain when you would use it and why

  • preventer = daily, BD (morning, evening) to prevent onset of symptoms
  • reliever = when needed

What would you mention when demonstrating the correct technique

A

Stand/sit up straight
Hold inhaler in dominant hand
Removes lid from inhaler, shake if a metered dose inhaler and not used for 5+ days (mix up propellant and medication)

Take a deep breath out
Form a tight seal with your lips around the mouthpiece
Inhale as much as you canand press down on the inhaler to release dose
Remove inhaler, hold your breath for 10s
