How can you assess capacity
A
After you’ve explained something, ask the patient to tell you what they understand
Give pauses between sections to give the patient a chance to ask questions
Would it help if I explained it again?
Can you tell me how we’re going to treat XYZ

- do you know where you are, your age, your DOB, the year
- can you say the months of the year backwards, starting from December?
