Q

What is voiding urohydropulsion? What size of uroliths can be retrieved?

A
  • Pass catheter + pump water into bladder = express bladder holding dog so that trigone is pointing ventrally
  • 1-3mm in male dogs
  • up to 10mm in female dogs

Q

What are struvites? What can predispose?

A
  • Magnesium ammonium phosphate hexahydrate
  • UTI predisposes
  • Females > males

Q

How can you monitor struvite dissolution?

A
  • Urinalysis + imaging every 4-6wks
-USG <1.020 + 20% reduction in stone size
(takes around 3 months to resolve)

Q

How can you prevent calcium oxalate uroliths?

A
  • Rule out hypercalcaemia, metabolic acidosis, vitamin D excess

Q

What are predisposed to urate stones?

A
  • Dalmatian, English bulldogs
  • Dogs that get PSS - yorkshire terriers, miniature schnauzer
